BOULDER CREEK TO HOST 2012 UNITED STATES GOLF TEACHERS CUP
Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada, will host the 17th annual United States Golf Teachers Cup Wednesday and Thursday, October 24-25, 2012. Boulder Creek is hosting the tournament for the third time, and is held in high regard by past participants. The Fiesta Hotel & Casino in Henderson, approximately 15 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, will serve as the host hotel. More information on the tournament will be forthcoming in future e-newsletters, on www.USGTFMembers.com, and also in the Summer 2012 edition of Golf Teaching Pro.

The inaugural United States Match Play Championship will be held May 7-11, 2012, at Indian Hills Golf Course in Fort Pierce, Florida. This will be the first open match play national championship ever held in the United States. The event is open to all golfers, professional and amateur.

He might go down as the most under-appreciated three-time major winner in golf history, but Larry Nelson isn’t one to seek personal glory. Nelson’s rise to the top of the game is nothing short of remarkable, a story that doesn’t get told often enough.
Nelson first touched a club at the age of 21 after returning from Vietnam. Looking for something to do in his spare time, Nelson took up golf, using Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons book as his guide. He spent countless hours on the range. After six months, he went to work at Pine Tree Country Club in Kennesaw, Georgia. He broke 100 the first time he ever played, and within a mere nine months of taking up the game broke 70. The members of Pine Tree urged him to play professionally, and he embarked on that journey. Nelson said he got the tee-to-green game down fairly quickly, but he had to play catch-up when it came to the short shots. In 1973, at the age of 27, Nelson got through Q-School on his first try and he was off to the races.

A DISCUSSION OF STACK & TILT
When discussing uniformity in golf instruction, we cannot ignore the now-famous, if not infamous, “Stack & Tilt” swing techniques introduced to the golf world by Mike Plummer and Andy Bennett with a huge splash on the June 2007 cover of Golf Digest. No other technique has had such an impact in golf instruction. It is considered revolutionary, controversial, cutting edge, gimmicky, and all of the above. Without a doubt, it received everyone’s attention from playing professionals, teaching professionals and amateurs alike.
